Project Description:
This turn of the century home was having a hard time keeping up with the huge looming cedar tree in the front yard. The tree was blocking most of the natural light into their southwest facing living room. Rather than remove the beloved cedar tree, the young couple of this Lake City home chose to work with it and, in the process, developed a plan that vaulted the ceiling, removed walls and added south-facing dormer windows. The vaulted ceiling not only brought in much needed light, it also gave the feel of added space without increasing the footprint of the house. The old house also received new decks and entry canopies, a new main floor bath, all new wiring, energy efficient windows and added insulation. Future plans include a new kitchen on the main floor and master suite and bath on the lower floor.
